Potentate's September/October Message

What a year! So much has been going on that my head is swirling and having trouble keeping up with the activity. I just returned from the International Shrine Imperial Session along with Chief Rabban Richard Eggerling, Assistant Rabban Dan Johnson, High Priest and Prophet Jerry Pigsley, Legal Counsel Ill. Sir Rob Kinsey and their ladies. There were 45 pieces of legislation before the Shrine body and some of the discussions were more than just a little intense. The biggest items that took the most time were those involving our hospital system. As you saw in a letter published last month, the delivery of hospital care will likely be changing. We need to keep up with the changing times in overall hospital care and continue to provide the best, world-class care that Shriners Hospitals provides for our kids. As more information becomes available, we will pass it on. A highlight for me came after most of the business was conducted. That is when we met the 2018-2019 Patient Ambassadors, Riley and Lily. We also had the opportunity to speak with Alec from all of the hospital ads. He is a sharp young man.

As with past summers, there have already been a lot of parades. This year we had more requests for Shriners in parades than we could possibly accommodate. Participation from the Nobility has been very good and the communities that we visited have been appreciative of our presence. More parades are on the schedule with the Wilber Czech Festival, Hickman Days, Columbus Days and Norfolk parade, to name a few. Check the schedule online or in the Sesostris office to verify the full list. Thank you to all of the units that have made these events, in order to show everyone what Shriners do.

Sesostris had their first Ladies Night Out event the end of June and a lot of fun was had by all who attended. The performers enjoyed being entertainers and the audience approved of the entertainment, making it a very successful evening. Friday was the annual Nile Luau. All of you that attended know that it was a great time and the food and entertainment were top-notch. Kudo’s to all the Ladies of the Household who prepared the event. Then the Iron Nobles had their 2nd Annual Shrine Stock with a beer garden in the north parking lot. It was bigger than last year and by all accounts, a great success. At least I had fun. We had 45 Nobles, ladies and guests travel the Rhine River for the 2018 Potentate’s Trip. It was hot, but was a fabulous time. Everyone on board the S.S. Antoinette was treated like royalty with excellent wine, beer and food. We saw wonderful sites and met lots of new friends. Now, we are preparing for the 2018 C.S.S.A. Convention which will be in Branson and we hope to bring back more good reports of people having fun.

As we look forward to finishing out the year we will be having the Sesostris Sportsman’s Giveaway. This has become a big event and our biggest fundraiser. The committee has been working hard to make this a success and with everyone’s help I think that we can have the best year ever. On October 25, we will have the annual kids Halloween Party followed by the Fall Ceremonial on October 27. Also, don’t forget to reserve your table for the Joseph Hall New Year’s Eve Party. So far, the Membership Committee tells us the that new petitions have been slow coming in. To keep membership moving we need new Nobles, so your help is needed to recruit. Call Steve Bussboom if you need help.

Lady Lynn and I have been enjoying a very busy year and have had fun with the many events we have attended. Thanks for your excellent work. Remember, "the miracle is this, the more we share, the more we have." That is a quote we have been using all year and something that all Shriners stand for.
