At his request, in lieu of presents, celebrants brought cash and check donations for the Shriners Hospital in Galveston. While we hear of those stories everyday, the amazing thing is it blossomed into over $1500 and the donations are still coming in. At May’s Board of Governor’s meeting, young Mr. Kenagy presented the checks received so far to Tub Room staff members, Maria Andrade-Pulido and Cindy Lu Salinas. Some excerpts from a thank you letter from Reid’s parents: “When I think of Shriners I think of the worst. I didn’t understand why we needed to go. The Dr. came back in and said there was nothing he could do and that if his son was in that condition Shriners is the only hospital in the world he would go to.” “I hope someone reads this and passes it to every department so they will be able to understand our heartfelt appreciation for everyone involved. From the wonderful greeter’s at the front with stickers to the doctors there is a common goal. That goal is to preserve the spirit and health of the children that come through these doors.” “The hospital is so excited about this particular donation, because it is an indication of the difference we make in the lives of our kids,” says John Swartwout, Administrator ABOUT SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN Shriners Hospitals accept children under 18, providing high quality care at no cost to the patient or their family. For more information on the types of treatments, or to obtain an application for a child in need of care, visit www.shrinershq.org. Since 1966, Shriners Hospitals for Children – Galveston has been providing high quality care to children with burn injuries. The Shriners Hospital in Galveston is one of 22 hospitals in the Shriners Hospitals for Children system and one of only four in the system that treats burn injuries. Since the Shrine first made a commitment to advancing burn treatment in the 1960s, a burned child's chance for survival has more than doubled. Today, these hospitals remain pioneers in burn treatment. They are actively involved in the development of artificial skin and other major advancements that will continue to revolutionize treatment of burn patients.
